GABRIEL Pillay, head prefect of Carter High School left for Maryland State, Oakland Mills High School in the U.S. in August on a 10-month exchange programme and has integrated well with his host family.

“I love my new and extended family, it’s cool to have four parents,” said Pillay.

Gabriel continues to live the essence of Carter always grabbing hold of opportunities. He has joined the cross- country team and was chosen to represent the school at an interstate event in North Carolina, a humbling yet prestigious moment for a humble young man from Pietermaritzburg.

“Every day is great. It’s so amazing to be here. I’ve wanted it for so long and have been blessed with my dream coming to fruition,” said Gabriel.
