Child safety is paramount

2016-03-09 06:00

I WRITE this letter with great concern about something that is wrong - the transportation of children to school - in the hope that a positive change can be made.

The anniversary of eight lives lost on 28 January, 2015, is a reminder.

Many children are being ferried to school and back in bakkies and vans without much safety.

Their parents are desperate to send their children to school and have no alternative.

These vehicles should be registered with the traffic department, with a special permit to be carried and a regulated speed enforced.

There should be a limited number of children per vehicle and the vehicles should be checked continually for roadworthiness.
