THE first gospel festival, Unguye, will be hosted in Winston Churchill on Tuesday 15 December in the Winston Churchill Theatre.

The event is organised by local gospel artist from Imbali Unit 1 Nonhlanhla “Nano” Makhathini, who lives in Gauteng.

Makhathini will also launch her album on the day.

“They say charity begins at home and that is exactly what I’m doing. To pursue my career I moved to Johannesburg, but I never forgot about home. The festival will be launched for the first time and I chose to come back and introduced it at home first. “The focus is to grow local talent, who will be performing and by doing that we are trying to upgrade and uplift our local stars,” said Makhathini.

She said they chose to hold the event on 15 December so that everyone can be accommodated. “It’s that time of the year where everyone is happy about the festive season. People go to different places such as the beaches and other places of fun.

“Not everyone enjoys being outdoors, so by doing this we are accommodating those people - they must come and worship. We have reached the end of the year and for that we must to be grateful to the Almighty for taking us this far. We promise a night to remember and everyone is invited,” said Makhathini.

Artists who will perform are Sgwili, Neli ka Dlamini (I Want to Sing gospel winner), Sthe Phungula, Themba K and Nano.

Makhathini will be performing some of her songs which she describes as “versatile”.

Tickets are available at Computicket for R150 general access and R180 VIP tickets, they will also be sold at the door on the day.
