Clean audit report for district municipality

2016-12-21 06:01

THE Auditor General Office announced that uMgungundlovu District Municipality has maintained its audit findings status, bagging another clean audit.

uMDM speaker, councillor Edward Dladla made the announcement at the last council meeting for the year. “The financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the uMgungundlovu District Municipality as at 30 June 2016, and its financial performance and cash flows for the year then ended in accordance with the SA Standards of GRAP and the requirements of the MFMA and DoRA,” said Dladla.

“As the new Council we are more than pleased to receive such great news and we are determined to further sustain such compliancy”, said Mayor Maphumulo.

The AG’s emphasis of material losses and impairments matters, the municipality incurred material losses amounting to R36.66 million (7.39 million water kilolitres) as a result of water distribution losses, ageing infrastructure, faulty meters and illegal connections, which represents 39% of the total water purchased, as opposed to 46% in 2015. uMDM further incurred material losses to the amount of R50.25 million as a result of a write-off of irrecoverable trade debtors, compared to R65.92 million in 2015.

Both the DA and the IFP welcomed the findings especially in light of the history of where the municipality came from. - Supplied
