Development product in the Mzansi team

2017-07-26 06:01

MARITZBURG United’s new head coach, Fadlu Davids, is over the moon that one of his development products, Constandino Christodoulo, will be representing South Africa at the U17 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) games.

This week the SA U17 (Amajimbos) head coach, Molefi Ntseki,
took the Maritzburg United Academy player to the side and asked him to take part in the upcoming U17
Cosafa Cup, which will take place Mauritius from July 21 to 30.

Although many soccer followers may say the Maritzburg United Academy goalkeeper may not be a household name, Davids said
Christodoulo is one of the brightest and regular players in United’s Diski squad and will go far.

“He is our goalkeeper in our
Diski [squad], playing in our Colts team, and who also trains with the first team.

“We are happy for him and this recent call proves that the junior academy is the future of any senior team,” said Davids.

Following lengthy observations and monitoring, Ntseki, head coach of the South African U17 boy’s
national team, unveiled a 25-man squad to compete in the upcoming U17 Cosafa Cup.

He will conduct one final training session where he will have to drop four players to complete the required 21-man squad that will represent
the nation at the regional showpiece.

Amajimbos will be hoping to go all the way this year when they return to Mauritius after the narrow 5-4 penalty defeat suffered at the hands of Namibia in the 2016 final.

“We have had a good weekend and are happy with the level of talent the players possess.

“Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done before our opening match.

“We have kept four additional players.

“We will make a final decision soon, but I am happy to say we have the core squad,” said Ntseki.
