Dinner and all that jazz

2017-04-19 06:01

THE Friends of Hospice Annual Jazz Dinner was established five years ago as a second fund-raiser to the Friends of Hospice Annual Dance which has been in existence for over 23 years.

The next Jazz Dinner takes place at the Golden Horse Casino on May 6 at 7pm.

The event is currently viewed as one of the premier events on the Pietermaritzburg calendar and presents an excellent combination of world class jazz coupled with exquisite cuisine in one of the city’s premier conference venues. The ideal setting for jazz, the event has boasted some extraordinary artists over the past few years and this year promises to be spectacular with the Debbie Mari Jazz Quintet in attendance.

Debbie Mari is head of vocal jazz studies at UKZN and a nationally recognised jazz vocalist.

In addition to her career as a performer she has served as a judge for SA Idols, SA’s Got Talent and The Voice SA. She will be joined by George Mari (trumpet), Ildo Nandja (bass), Burton Naidoo (piano) and Caleb Frow (drums). Audiences can expect the hottest jazz ever experienced in the city.

Stand-up comedian Troy Tesla will also feature at the dinner.

The event organiser, Karen Devroop, who founded the event five years ago said the people of Pietermaritzburg can expect world class jazz, comedy and food while supporting a very noble organization such as the Msunduzi Hospice.

To avoid disappointment, purchase your tickets early. Tickets are available at R325 per person and tables of 10 are available at R3250.
