ROYAL Eagles coach Khabo Zondo has refused to comment on how long it will take for Mbulelo Mabizela to return to the fold.

Eagles suspended the former Bafana Bafana defender a fortnight ago amid allegations of misconduct.

According to press reports he was caught red-handed smoking dagga at the club house in Pietermaritzburg recently. It was also reported had he has been expelled by the club.

“OJ” has a history of playing foul of management, having been dumped by Mpumalanga Black Aces prior to ending last season at AmaZulu.

“For now I can not make any comment regarding that, it’s an internal matter,” Zondo says.

“It is important that we protect both the club and the player regarding whatever has been written and whatever is happening around OJ, so I’m not making any comment.

As I say, I’m not making any comment.”

Meanwhile, Zondo accepts his side face a challenge in trying to secure automatic promotion to the Absa Premiership by winning the National First Division.

Eagles are fifth on the table and trail leaders Baroka FC by eight points with seven matches left.

“Going direct [for automatic promotion] it’s going to be difficult and we are talking about three wins and the team who are position one are not losing any match, and us we are not winning every match,” he says.

“It’s going to be tough but we are still going to play them and we hoped that on Sunday we would have collected maximum points and closed the gap and hope that if they slip up we can catch them.”

Zondo’s charges will visit Cape Town All Stars on April 9 at Athlone Stadium after the international break.
