KEY was founded in 1973 and quickly evolved into a regionally dominated motor group in KwaZulu-Natal that now has operations in Durban, Pinetown, New Germany and Pietermaritzburg.

Each branch always remaining true to the Key mission which is to “exceed customers expectations, by exceeding each other’s”.

The Key Group prides itself in starting the Key Cares Foundation during 2006, and has changed the lives on many during the past 10 years. Each director of Key is tasked with nominating a personal charity or beneficiary organisation of their choice. A percentage of net operating profit after tax is set aside annually and split between the management’s nominated beneficiaries.

Since its inception, the Key Foundation has contributed more than R3 million to various charitable organisations. The directors of Key Pietermaritzburg branch support Grace College, Pietermaritzburg Mental Health Society, RivLife and Lifeline.

Key has also had various achievements over the years which include, 43 years serving the South African fleet community, Deloitte Best Company to work for category winner and first winner of GM service Master Status Internationally.

Key celebrates its top achievers annually, and this year Vish Padayachee, the longest standing member of Key celebrating 43 years’ service, and the [arts director for Key Pietermaritzburg, recently claimed two awards at the annual Key Group Awards. Padayachee won Parts Distributorship of the Year Award, and Best Cheque Handover to a nominated charity 2015.

Dion Scannel, Key Pietermaritzburg car rental manager, won the Top Achiever award, Top Manger Car Rental for 2016.

Marc Michaux, director for trucks and commercial sales Key Pietermaritzburg,landed an exciting fleet deal for 50 Isuzu trucks, which he had been working on for more than three years.

Currently, and exclusively to Key Pietermaritzburg, is the Isuzu KB 250 Hi Rider Double Cab “X-treme”, and over the next few months, Key Pietermaritzburg will be launching the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Trailblazer z71, as well as the exciting eagerly awaited face lifted Isuzu KB 300 Double cab .
