PIETERMARITZBURG Afro-jazz sensation Nomalanga Hlubi is reeling from the shock of her husband’s death.

Nhlanhla Harry Hlubi (54) died in hospital on Saturday following delayed complications after he was involved in a car accident in Johannesburg on January 1.

Speaking to the Maritzburg Echo about the death of Hlubi, Nomalanga’s sister Nomathamsanqa Radebe said the family is “having a hard time” coming to terms with his death.

“It’s still very hard for everyone, especially my sister, but she is trying to be strong for her daughter and the family’s support is helping to ease her pain. We are trying to complete the preparations for his burial. It’s a sad time for the family.”

The pair had been married for 24 years and had a daughter, Siphokazi Hlubi, who is also a budding jazz musician. Radebe said Hlubi was a family man and he will be missed.

“He was very family orientated and supportive of his wife’s musical endeavours. He loved his family and he loved people. He was a humble man.”

At the time of his death, Hlubi worked for the Msunduzi Municipality as part of the security personnel for council. He will be laid to rest on Saturday following a funeral at St John’s Acre Catholic Church (Kwas’Gujana) at 11 am.
