PIETERMARITZBURG School of Fashion Design student Sbonelo Madlala is one of three designers in KwaZulu-Natal to receive a bursary from the KZN Fashion Council.

The bursary is awarded annually to students who perform exceptionally well throughout their fashion design course, and who come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Madlala, who is completing his final year at Priscilla Bhika School of Fashion Design, has been described by Bhika, the director at the school, as the most deserving student of the bursary.

“This could not have gone to a better student,” Bhika said, adding that Madlala is an inspiring student who exudes self-confidence and produces excellent work.

Madlala, who received Dux of the Year at the school’s 2016 awards ceremony, thanked the KZN Fashion Council for their “generous bursary to help realise my dream”.

“The KZN Fashion Council in Durban has sponsored three deserving design students from top design colleges in the province,” said Bhika, who also expressed her gratitude to the KZN Fashion Council for recognising and awarding her students year after year.
