Father concerned by lack of progress in family murders

2017-09-13 06:02

THREE family members were attacked allegedly with a bush knife in Plessislaer on October 30, 2016.

Two of the victims, Ngcebo and Zwelihle Ngcobo, died on the day of the incident and the third, Sandile, died in hospital this year due to internal injuries, Sandile’s father, Joel, told Echo.

“What upsets me is that the killer is still on the loose and is probably boasting about his action,” Joel said.

He said no update on the progress of the investigation has been forthcoming from the police.

“To my knowledge the police are in possession of the killer’s identity details because we [family] gave it to them,” he said.

Joel said according to a witness who was with the three on the day of the incident, the attacker allegedly pounced on the victims without provocation.

He said the suspect then fled. Later the victim’s family were taken to a house in the area where it was said the suspect rented a place.

“The owner of the house let us into the room the killer rented, which is how we got his identity document, which we gave to the police,” Joel said.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed that the police have not arrested the suspect, but said investigations are ongoing.

“The alleged suspect had fled to his country of origin and the investigating officers are following up on his exact location.”

Joel said the suspect is from Lesotho.
