AS part of its holiday promotion, the KwaZulu-Natal Museum is offering free branded water bottles to all children visiting the museum.

All participants have to do to get the bottle is complete a very easy crossword puzzle about its newly upgraded bird gallery.

The KZN Museum is a modern museum covering the natural and cultural history of the KwaZulu-Natal region, providing an educational outing that is constantly expanding its own horizons through research projects.

It is one of South Africa’s oldest major regional museums hosting several of South Africa’s most important heritage collections. The internationally renowned collections feature regional archaeology, African cultural products, European settler history, seashells, insects and other fauna. There is also a room dedicated to KZN history including a recreation of a late 1800s Victorian street featuring shops, a stable and period houses. There is a full-sized replica of a Drakensberg cave, complete with rock art, and a wrecked olden-day trading vessel.

What makes the KZN Museum particularly interesting is the array of interesting temporary exhibitions that give the museum a definite dynamic advantage. It is home to the South Africa’s largest research library which is often used by pupils from schools across the city.

This museum is wheelchair friendly and includes a ramp, lift and special toilet facilities. It is open seven days a week including most public holidays. - Supplied
