Gay & Lesbian Network, and My Name is Rose NPC, host ‘Rose’ films

THE Gay & Lesbian Network and with My Name Is Rose NPC, hosted a film screening of I am the Rose and The Rose Ministry on 27 April at the Edendale Lay Ecumanical Centre.

There was a performance from the Gay & Lesbian Network’s Rainbow Theatre Company, titled Reality Check: Living Vulnerable Lives.

The Rainbow Theatre Company is a project of the outreach programme and aims to empower the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community to take ownership of their rights, engage in self-help and self-development activities have broader acceptance by the local community for equal and fair treatment.

There was also a drag queen performance, which included song and dance pieces. After the entertainment there was a question and answer session in which serious issues concerning the LGBTI community and their family members were discussed.

This event was just one of many to be held by The Gay & Lesbian Network in the lead up to their annual Pink Mynah Festival, which will be held in October. The Pink Mynah Arts & Film Festival will be held on 27 October, the Pink Mynah Pageant on 28 October and the Pink Mynah Street Parade on 29 October. There are a number of pre-events planned including KZN has Talent, a Women’s Day breakfast, to name a few.
