THE eighties hit Simply the Best by Tina Turner says it all for Sedwyn George in his field of expertise.

George (25), who plays for national first division outfit Royal Eagles and Eastwood resident, is officially the highest goal scorer and has won the NFD’s Golden Boot Award. George ended the NFD season as the league’s top scorer, netting 20 goals in the campaign.

An Eastwood parent and founder of an amateur side, Barcelona, where George started his early career, Veronica Dos Santos said she was proud of him.

“I’m super proud of him. I find great pleasure in watching the players develop into professionals. Many years ago in 1994 when gangsterism, violence and drugs were at their peak, gun shots killed our children and every week we buried someone.”

Dos Santos said that is when she saw a need to cater for the boys in the community, which is how Barcelona started.

“My son Curtis Dos Santos was only five years old. We kept the youth busy in the soccer ground and it paid off. The violence ceased and everybody enjoyed soccer. That soccer programme had a lot of positive results and excellent players came from there, George is one of them,” said Dos Santos.

George said his team needs to be praised for the award as well because they work as a unit.

“I am happy that my hard work paid off, but let’s not forget that soccer is a team sport and all my teammates play an important role to make me look good,” said George.
