TO ensure we continue to meet international standards, our school participates in the International Benchmarking Tests (IBT) offered by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) each year.

Our Grade 6 and Grade 9 pupils’ mathematical and language skills are tested. In 2016 Grade 9s Clara Kohrs, Anna Kremnitzer and Sinqobile Mngoma achieved high distinctions in English, while Ivan Mohlala achieved a distinction in mathematics.

In Grade 6, Greg Kassier and Jessica Vroegop achieved distinctions in English, Greg Kassier and Mischka Khan achieved distinctions in mathematics. Well done to all our IBT achievers,

Our Grade 9 pupils continue to achieve a higher average English score than all other participating schools - South African, Australian and other schools worldwide - and higher mathematics average than South African and Australian schools.

Our German exchange students returned after the holidays full of interesting stories about what they had done during the holidays with their host partners.

Some went to Cape Town, some to Umfolozi or the Kruger Park, some to Swaziland and others to various different beaches along our coast.

Thank you to all our “GEP” parents for giving their “partner children”’ many good memories to take home.

We bade our visitors farewell at the morning devotion last Monday and wish them a safe journey back home to Germany.

Our Grade 10 class will depart for Germany on June 5 where they will meet up once again with their partners to experience Germany.

We congratulate U14 Umzinyathi team members Nqobile Sithole and Awande Mbuli (captain) on being selected. Their team won two and lost three games at the inter-regional hockey festival last weekend.

We also congratulate Angelika Meyer, who will be playing for the U16 Umzinyathi girls’ team as vice-captain. - Supplied.
