HLELINGOMUSO Primary School in Imbali recently won two trophies after two choirs from the school achieved first and second place in the schools’ choir competition, in which eight schools took part.

The first choir comprised Grade R and 2 pupils and was orchestrated by teacher, Sihle Malinga. The second choir comprised Grade 3 and Grade 4 pupils, led fellow teacher Dudu Zulu.

Choir conductor, Themba Ndlovu, said the pupils had been honing their singing skills since the beginning of the year.

“We started preparing for the competition since the year started. The uMgungundlovu District competition was held from 4 May to 6 May and we are happy with the results. Malinga’s choir came first and second with their English and African songs, respectively. Zulu’s choir obtained second position in the English category.

“Winning the awards boosts the morale of pupils and that drives them to improve their talent. The trophies are an incentive to show that as a school we have achieved a lot,” he said.

“Not everyone can excel academically and we believe that if pupils have a talent they must polish it and excel in whatever they do,” he added.
