Hurtful to see our suburbs like this

2016-10-19 06:00

IT is Sunday 8am. I am walking my German Shepherd down Ridge Road, down Alan Paton Avenue, and left behind Nando’s.

Security staff in full riot gear are patrolling the campus.

Police vans are patrolling the area around the university.

The roads are littered with broken bottles, burnt remains of rubbish and uprooted road signs, and a broken security boom lies on a pavement. Gates are secured with chains.

It hurts to see our suburb like this, and I have to wonder how much of the money that has to be spent on security and repairs could have contributed to the reduction of student fees.
