THE Impi 2016 battle of the deejays main event on 26 November will be headlined by two internationally acclaimed deejays from France and a house music vocalist from the United States.

This was revealed by the event organiser Fano Gumede of Fanotainment, who in a joint venture with Intulo Lifestyle in Sweetwaters, said they are bringing DJ Franck Roger and DJ Rocko from France and well-known jazz-infused house music vocalist Monique Bingham out.

“This year we want the event to be a big and unforgettable experience for all who will be part of it. We are very happy to be bringing DJ Franck Roger who last visited South Africa in 2008.

“The three international acts are well known and respected worldwide in the house music scene and we are excited to have them in Pietermaritzburg,” said Gumede.

The Impi 2016 event will be in conjunction with the official launch of Intulo Lifestyle, formerly known as KwaBha.

“We are very excited that the event has a new home. We have been hosting it at different city nightclubs over the years and this year we decided on an outdoor venue and Intulo Lifestyle came through for us.”

Asked how he managed to rope in international acts to the event, Gumede said he has built an enormous network with many deejays worldwide over the years.

“I am connected to a lot of international guys and when I called to ask if they would be part of the event they jumped at the opportunity.”

Some of SA’s well-known deejays who will be sharing the stage with the international acts include DJ Christos and DJ Lady Sakhe.

Gumede said they are compiling a lineup of hip-hop acts to grace the stage as well.

“It’s going to be 20 hours of non-stop good music. We will have two dance floors that will cater respectively for house and hip-hop music enthusiasts.”

Impi is a popular event on the city’s music calendar where renowned deejays battle it out on the decks in front of their fans.

In October as a build-up to the main event, Fanotainment held the Impi 2016 talent search auditions to select one local deejay and one hip-hop act to perform at the main event alongside the big names.

The finale for the Impi 2016 talent search will be held on 25 November.

Limited early-bird tickets for the Impi 2016 main event will start from this weekend.

Early bird tickets are R80, general tickets R100 and VIP R250 and table bookings can also be made.
