MIDLANDS Hindu Society, in association with The Consulate General of India, is hosting the second International Day of Yoga in Pietermaritzburg.

In recognition that yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. In South Africa, the day is commemorated on the Sunday closest to 21 June.

To celebrate International Day of Yoga, and following on the success of last year’s celebration, Midlands Hindu Society will be holding a lecture and yoga demonstration once again with the object of creating an awareness about yoga and its benefits in terms of disease prevention, health promotion and management of lifestyle related disorders.

In our endeavour to promote the benefits of yoga practice and to expose the Pietermaritzburg public to the growing number of yoga instructors and practitioners, Midlands Hindu Society is very fortunate to have been able to secure local practicing physiotherapist, Omesh Somaroo to serve as instructor for the yoga session.

Due to the event coinciding with Fathers’ Day and given that we are going into winter, Midlands Hindu Society will host this year’s International Day of Yoga in an earlier time-slot and at an indoors venue.

The event takes place on Sunday, 19 June at Truro Hall, Khan Road at 7am and everyone is invited. You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and to bring a yoga mat. As with any indoor venue, space will be limited so get there early to secure the best spot on the floor. Come and be part of a world-wide initiative.

There will be yoga sessions in Pietermaritzburg and Durban as well as in centres throughout South Africa. Participation is free. - Supplied.
