THE KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir are joining forces for a concert to celebrate Christmas in the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 7pm on Thursday, 3 December.

This popular evening of music and song, simply titled “Christmas”, is once again presented by Parklane SuperSpar, in association with Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, and sponsored by Pietermaritzburg, CPW Printers and ABI.

The orchestra will play a section of Christmas favourites including Sleigh Ride and A Christmas Fantasy and the world-renowned Drakensberg Boys’ Choir will lift the audience’s spirit with their singing of seasonal music including selections from Stella Natalis, a work for choir and large orchestra by contemporary Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, composer of the popular Adiemus.

The choir will also lead the audience in the singing of traditional carols accompanied by the famous city hall organ.

Soloists for the evening include Cape Town soprano, Beverley Chiat, who sings O Holy Night and I Know that my Redeemer Liveth from Handel’s Messiah, and Pietermaritzburg-based concert pianist, Duigan.

The KZN Philharmonic will be conducted by Daniel Walshaw, while lighting for the concert is provided by Big Beat.

Tickets, ranging from R130 to R200 (with discounts for pensioners (R120) and students and children (R80), are available at Parklane SuperSpar’s Coffee Shop. Phone 033 342 3487.

There is secure, patrolled parking at the city hall, the Tatham Art Gallery and Bessie Head Library precincts. – Supplied.
