YOUNG Lady with Heart 2016 semi-finalists will perform a flash mob dance at Liberty Midlands Mall this Heritage Day on Saturday, 24 September.

The group of Grade 11 girls from 15 local schools hope to inspire the public to participate in their sanitary towel drive for a local high school where adolescent girls are absent from school during their menstrual cycle because they cannot afford these basic hygiene products.

YLWH sponsors, Solé Salon & Spa and Foodpak, are challenging clients and customers to donate sanitary towels towards the initiative.

“We are hoping that our young ladies will collect enough packs of sanitary towel pads to build a ‘giant pad cake’ and we encourage businesses to challenge their offices to do the same. Basically sanitary towel packs are collected and then taped together and decorated with ribbons and other decorations to resemble a cake,” said organiser, Lara Edmonds.

The sanitary towels need to remain in their packaging for hygiene reasons. Individual packs can be dropped in a bin outside Pick n Pay at Liberty Midlands Mall or at Foodpak and Solé Salon & Spa. Monetary donations can also be placed in tins at these venues or at Marcos Jewellers and Minuteman Press.

The YLWH group will be at the Liberty Midlands Mall until 11am and thereafter will visit Copesville Secondary, the school they are assisting, with treats for 20 girls.

The sanitary towel drive ends on 22 October at a gala awards dinner at Victoria Country Club.

The organisers thank the following other sponsors for their commitment to the campaign - Teron Media, Lay-out Events, Just Boutique, Artfarts, Elation productions, Lisa Jennings School of Dance and Stay Easy Hotel.
