Life imprisonment for child rapist

2017-09-27 06:01

THE Pietermaritzburg Sexual Offences Court sentenced Mondli David Ndlovu (25) to life imprisonment for raping an 11- year-old child last year.

“On September 10, 2016 at 10pm, the victim was at home at Taylor’s Halt when she was approached by the accused.

“Ndlovu sent the victim to his house not far away from the victim’s home to fetch a cellphone charger.

“The victim went to the accused’s house and could not find the charger.

“On her way back to her home, the victim met Ndlovu who was waiting for her along the way.

“He grabbed the victim and forced her to go with him to his uncle’s house in the area where she was raped,” said KZN SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane.

Zwane said the victim reported the matter to her sister and brother who then reported the matter to Taylor’s Halt Police Station.

“A case of rape was opened and was transferred to the Plessisslaer Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences for further investigation. “The accused was traced and arrested the same day.

“He was charged with rape and appeared in court where bail was successfully opposed,” Zwane said.

The KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa welcomed the sentence.

“The sentence will serve as a warning to other criminals who are thinking of committing such crimes.

“I also thank witnesses who were brave enough to give evidence that assisted in convicting the accused,” Langa said. - Supplied.
