LADYSMITH Black Mambazo have been nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award in the category of Best World Music Album, for the album Music From Inala featuring Ella Spira and The Inala Ensemble.

The group, who have already won four Grammys, were first awarded the prestigious prize in 1988 for Best Traditional Folk Album titled Shaka Zulu. They won Best Traditional World Music Album in 2005 and 2008 for Raise Your Spirit Higher and Ilembe respectively.

Last year they added the Best World Music Album title to their accolades for Singing for Peace Around the World.

This year Ladysmith Black Mambazo celebrate their 55th year.

Last year the MEC visited group founder, Joseph Shabalala, at his home to thank him for his contribution to the industry.

“Ladysmith Black Mambazo continues to wave the South African flag high across the world. The group has remained relevant since its inception, appealing to both young and old generations,” said Arts and Culture MEC Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha.

The 58th Grammy Awards will take place on 15 February. - Supplied.
