THE winner of the annual Maritzburg Marathon Prodigal Khumalo says his plans to win worked out well.

Khumalo said he did not worry about other athletes, especially the household names in the race, but ran “his race”.

“I am glad that what I planned fell nicely together. I told myself not to worry about who is present or who the winner might be. My aim was to run my own race, chase my target and the time I wanted to do.

“I’m getting ready for Comrades Marathon and I wanted to be convinced that my preparations are going well. Winning the Maritzburg Marathon has confirmed everything, and I’m happy,” said Khumalo.

The Zimbabwean-born Khumalo said his focus is on the “Big C”.

“My concentration is entirely on Comrades Marathon and I can say ‘so far so good’.”
