Maritzburg fans ‘must fill Harry Gwala’

2017-04-05 06:03

IT all started when hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest asked fans to fill up the Dome in Northriding, Johannesburg for his concert in 2015. He used the same strategy last year to bring his fans to Orlando Stadium.

On Saturday night at Harry Gwala Stadium the same strategy and campaign will be used by Maritzburg United when they ask diehards to pack the stands when the team goes up against Ajax Cape Town.

The supporters campaign has been called “we are turning the corner” as a means to motivate the Team of Choice to return to its former winning ways.

United’s number one fan and a regular face at every game, Vuyo Mkhize from Sobantu says the home side will win against the visitors and asked soccer lovers to come in their numbers.

“We are asking everybody from Maritzburg and nearby areas to come to Harry Gwala Stadium because we are going to back our boys to turn it around.

“Let us, and it is our duty, to cheer them on. We are going to prove to visitors and the whole country that we are officially turning the corner with a good win,” said Mkhize.

Other fans Colleen Marais, Rinay Adams, Sharks Williams and Adheem Singh shared the same sentiments.

Last week United’s head coach Roger De Sa dropped a bombshell when he resigned unexpectedly after citing family commitments in Cape Town.

Former Team of Choice captain, also De Sa’s assistant, Fadlu Davids will once again step as interim coach until the end of the season.

United spokesperson Brian Zuma said the team is looking forward to playing a different ball and were eager to officially “turn the corner”.

“Preparations are going well and we are hoping to win against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday at all cost.”
