PSL outfit Maritzburg United is likely to use this weekend’s Fifa break to call their diehards to iron out some issues.

The Team of Choice followers almost caused ugly scenes last Tuesday at Harry Gwala Stadium after the game against Polokwane City. The home side was edged out 3-2 by the visitors and fans caused havoc and demanded that United's assistant coach and the former captain Fadlu Davids, step aside.

Security personnel and SAPS had their hands full trying to cool down the tense atmosphere, and some followers even complained on social network and asked for Davids to step down.

A passionate United supporter, Vuyo Mkhize (Amukelani Mckenzie on Facebook) said Davids must go and suggested that the current team manager Quinton Jetto be removed from his position as well.

She also called the Team of Choice a “bunch of losers”.

United's communications manager Brian Zuma said what happened after the game against Polokwane City was wrong, but they understood the way fans felt.

Zuma says a meeting to address their supporters will be called soon.

“We are going to meet our fans and engage with them. Only through engagement will we able to restore our good relations. They’ve been behind this team all along, and they still are, and we respect them for that. All they need is reassurance that we are working hard to get back to winning ways,” said Zuma.

Zuma refused to comment on Clive Barker's dismissal call made by Sunday’s national and Johannesburg-based publications.

“It’s something we don’t have to respond to.”

On Sunday United played away in Pretoria against University of Pretoria (AmaTuks) and registered their first win of the season when they beat the host 1-0.

The Team of Choice's next game will be at Harry Gwala Stadium on 21 November at 7pm against Telkom Knockout finalist Kaizer Chiefs.
