THE mayor of Msunduzi Municipality Themba Njilo is going to embark on his first series of izimbizo since taking office.

Njilo will be addressing residents on the progress of all community development projects implemented in the 2015/16 financial year and to plot a way forward for the city.

This was announced last Friday during the mayoral Integrated Development Plan (IDP) Izimbizo media launch held at the Tourism Hub building. Izimbizo is an initiative of the municipality where questions are answered, concerns heard and advice is taken from the public about the municipality programmes and services.

According to Executive Committee (Exco) member Eunice Majola, some of the development projects to be discussed include the Grange social housing project along the R56 and the Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network phase one implementation along Edendale Road.

She said during the year 2015 the most community need requests received by the municipality were repairs and maintenance of municipal infrastructure and construction of roads.

The mayor will start his izimbizo in Vulindlela on 12 November at Ncwadi sports field, then Edendale at the sports field behind Lay Centre on 13 November, city hall on 16 November, Willowfontein sports field on 19 November and Tamboville sports field on 20 November.

Majola, speaking on behalf of the mayor at the launch said the vision of the Msunduzi municipality is that of a safe, vibrant city in which to live, learn, work and do business.

“This can be achieved by engaging with all communities, especially the previously disadvantaged.

“The Municipal Systems Act provides the institutional framework to allow the IDP to engage people and plan according to their needs to achieve relevant concise and aligned service delivery.”

She said the IDP Izimbizo have been exceptionally successful leading to the year 2015 and there has been numerous community need requests documented and included in the IDP together with suitable programmes and projects improving socio-economic conditions for the residents of Msunduzi.

“We currently have a housing provision - the Grange Social Housing is on a huge scale and aims to eradicate the high percentage of middle-class housing needs within the population of Msunduzi.

“The Integrated Rapid Public Transport Network phase one implementation along Edendale Road is also evidence that the municipality is moving to the next level in terms of transport infrastructure upgrading.

“These are just a few of the projects the municipality is implementing over and above infrastructure service provision which is still being rolled out across the municipality.”
