PREPARATION is under way for the annual Stihl Open Gardens of Spring, with garden inspections, planning and planting happening throughout the region.

Autumn offers lots of opportunities to plan for the new growth of spring and it is an ideal time to start planting.

The cooler months of winter are designed to give your garden time to rest and are an ideal time to tidy up.

If you’re a keen gardener and would like to have your garden inspected or included in the open gardens, contact Gail at gail@spotted owl.co.za.

Gardens are open throughout the province every year in aid of various charities and they raise thousands of rands for their causes.

This year, the Stihl Open Gardens will be joining with the Botanical Society and will open several gardens in April.

These are largely indigenous gardens and you will be able to experience the beauty of aloes in full bloom and the advantages of having a water-wise garden.

One or two of the spring gardens will also be opening in autumn so that visitors will be able to enjoy the beautiful colours of the autumn leaves in the gardens.

A full programme of these open gardens will be available soon.
