FIFTEEN people were injured on Tuesday afternoon, September 12, in a head-on collision between a taxi and two motor cars on the R56 between Richmond and Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on the scene at approximately 1pm, finding the taxi and cars in the middle of the road. All three vehicles had sustained major damage.

Upon inspection, paramedics discovered three patients trapped inside the taxi and one inside one of the cars. Several others were found walking around at the scene.

Rescue services had to use specialised rescue tools to free the trapped patients.

Once freed paramedics assessed the patients and found that two had sustained moderate injuries while 13 had sustained minor injuries.

The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to provincial hospitals.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigation. - Supplied
