UMSUNDUZI municipality named its best performing employees in various categories at the third Service Excellence Awards that were held at the Royal Showgrounds last Friday.

The municipality handed out awards in 11 categories namely, the best frontline service delivery employee of the year (Gillian Grey), municipal innovator of the year (Mandla Ntombela), best implemented project of the year (Tracey Moodley), best senior manager of the year (Faith Ndlovu), best general manager of the year (Mosa Morapo), best employee within a business unit (Eshara Singh), city manager’s special award (Bheki Xulu), lifetime achievers award (Marcia Daniel), speaker’s special award (Dumisani Phungula), mayor’s special award (Ashreena Jethoo) and best employee award (Gillian Grey).

Speaking at the awards, Msunduzi Mayor Themba Njilo said the awards are meant to instil a new public service ethos and a devotion geared towards placing the city’s residents first.

“These public servants draw their strength and courage from the fact that they know the people they serve depend on them for survival. The recipients honoured today have displayed dedication, compassion, humility and extra ordinary leadership attributes. Through their exceptional work ethic, they have taken the responsibility to ensure that as they perform their daily duties, they must at the same time inspire others in their work.”

Njilo said the commitment and dedication of the recipients that were honoured has allowed government to add value to the lives of residents.

“Our people have immensely benefitted from the services that are rendered by public servants in Msunduzi municipality. As public servants you have delivered within the confines of the limited resources available to you in the public service and you have maximised those resources to ensure that optimum results have been achieved.”

The glitz and glamorous affair was hosted by radio presenters Sthandwa Nzuza of Ukhozi FM and Alex Mthiyane of Gagasi FM.

In a surprise entertainment performance, the mayor performed a musical item with a live band.
