Municipality in talks with owners

2017-08-30 06:01

AT an executive council meeting on Thursday, August 10 the Imbali Tourism and Mixed Investment Precinct, which will spruce up Manaye Hall on FJ Sithole Road in Imbali, was given the green light. The hall is used as the start for the Mandela Marathon.

It was stated that three properties adjoining the hall will be bought and demolished to build a bigger facility to boost tourism as the marathon attracts both international and national tourists.

At the council meeting it was stated that the service provider to manage the Manaye Hall precinct upgrade development has been appointed and that the owners of the three properties adjoining the hall will compensated and allocated to other sites.

Echo visited one of the families that live on the property who has been identified for the precinct upgrade, however, a family member declined to comment because the family has not reached agreement with the municipality.

The Msunduzi Municipality was also contacted for comment, but municipality spokesperson, Thobeka Mafumbatha, said: “We are still engaging with the land owners at this stage.

“Once all the negotiations are concluded, we will then be in a position to provide comment.” - Supplied.
