Name and shame illegal dumpers

2015-12-16 06:00

ON one hand we have a spectrum of colour beautifying our verges and traffic islands, thanks to Mbulaheni Tshivhase and his horticulture team, then on the other we find filthy residents dumping their household garbage in open areas and cul-de-sacs all over our suburbs. This filth epidemic is widespread in our northern suburbs and the culprits are the residents from the area. I cannot understand how it’s possible, but sadly most residents turn a blind eye to this eyesore.

Jhansi and Bombay roads, Mothie Singh Road, Darjeeling Drive, Rajah Road, Delhi and Pastoral roads are just the few areas where illegal dumping is prevalent.

Ward 30 Councillor J. Singh and I recently visited the cul-de-sac at the end of Darjeeling Drive. It is a disgusting site, with loads of household rubbish rotting in the summer heat.

We did however, manage to extract two addresses from the garbage. It is very easy to name and shame these offenders, but I also think that stiff fines from the health department will teach these people a lasting lesson.
