“I FEEL amazing.” Those were the words shared with Maritzburg Fever at an interview with pupil Ntando Dladla.

Ntando is now able to continue her schooling at Epworth High School for Girls through the efforts of Darren Maule, who hosted his annual fund-raising show at The Playhouse Theatre last month in aid of the Epworth Bursary Fund, and Ntando.

Taking a chance and believing in herself, Ntando wrote a motivational letter and sent it in with her application to Epworth earlier this year, however, her father was not able to afford the fees as he has five other children to look after.

“After I heard from Epworth my dad told me to forget about my dream of going there because we couldn’t afford it.

“It was very hard trying to forget about something I wanted so much to come true. I never thought my letter would make such a big difference in my life,” she said.

Maule, who hosted The Sound of Music in Durban last month, heard about the letter at another Epworth event he attended and was so moved he wanted to help.

“Darren Maule welcomed me with so much love together with his personal assistant Claire [Clarke]. It made me feel so special to know that he was doing this to help me. I have never met people who show so much love than the teachers, staff and head at Epworth.

“For me the most amazing thing is to know that people are willing to help you when you ask for it and if you’re persistent, like I was, your dreams really can come true.” .

Ntando and her family were treated to a weekend stay at Sun Coast after the show at The Playhouse.

She plans to make the most of her Grade 11 and 12 years at Epworth.

“I can’t wait to spend time with my friend, make new friends and make wonderful memories at the school I always longed to attend. I know I’m going to have a great time,” she said.
