No clean audit

2016-12-14 06:02

I WAS pleased to read of the honesty our new mayor exhibited in openly stating that the city will not get a clean audit for 2015/16 and thereby unequivocally condemned the previous administration run by his erstwhile ANC comrades.

It is a breath of fresh air to have an ANC politician, who not only sees consequences, but is also prepared to speak openly about them even if it did bring down the wrath of his comrades upon him.

I can think of any number of occasions when the DA pointed out maladministration and the consequences thereof which, unfortunately, fell on deaf ears.

However, even a clean audit does not mean that a municipality is fulfilling it’s mandate. It is possible for a municipality to get a clean audit even when it does not satisfactorily collect outstanding debt, maintain infrastructure, provide reliable basic services and has rampant corruption and inefficiency.
