Opportunities for ‘invisible’ traffic officers

2016-02-10 06:00

I BELIEVE there are traffic officers employed by the municipality because you do see them when there is a road race on in the city, otherwise they are invisible.

They should put their “invisibility” to good use at traffic lights to catch drivers who “shoot” the lights.

They would make a killing and swell the coffers of the municipality because at every change of the lights, at least three vehicles shoot the red light.

They could pick their spots at random because this happens at all traffic lights. Just think of the money that is lost just because the officers don’t do what they are supposed to do - enforce the traffic laws. This could lead to a safer environment.

On another note, Pietermaritzburg drivers do not know that the entrance to a traffic circle is a yield sign, they just go barging into the circle as if it is a highway.

Last Wednesday my daughter was almost hit when a selfish, thoughtless female driver went through the traffic circle in “motor town” without yielding or slowing down.
