FOLLOWING an article in Maritzburg Fever last year on Thulani Gumede’s first book, Inqaba: Grief and Hope, many doors have been opened for him both in the city and across the province, ahead of his second book launch, Lovers & Mirrors, on 25 March.

After publishing Inqaba: Grief and Hope, Gumede (33) received an “overwhelming” response and has been invited to talk about it on various media platforms.

The author was surprised when he was approached by a company that wants to make a movie based on his first book.

“I have realised that only the sky is the limit. The response has been superb, but I remain grounded.

“Pride can destroy a person’s success overnight. I would like to thank my mentor who has helped me stay grounded.

“The book changed a lot of people’s lives and it’s such a pleasure to know that people have read my book and it has helped them,” he said.

The launch of his second book, the 130-page Lovers & Mirrors, will take place at the Bessie Head Library. Entry is free.

The book will be on the shelves from 25 March in KZN. The book speaks about relationships before and in marriage. It also breaks down all the elements of a relationship and what makes it not succeed.

“I chose to write the book due to my experience in marriage and what some of my friends have shared about their relationships.

“The book, a true reflection of how people conduct themselves in relationships, explains the real meaning behind ‘happily ever after’.”

He said the book is relevant to all age groups and costs R150.

Gumede, who is halfway through his third book, is also completing his masters in commerce degree at UKZN.

I have realised that only the sky is the limit. The response has been superb, but I remain grounded. Pride can destroy a person’s success overnight.
