PIETERMARITZBURG has deemed the area around the city hall an important and significant zone.

A sculpture that reflects the municipality’s changing environment and growth had been erected in the area to conceptualise the city’s vision that comprises the elements of movement, strength, a caring society, justice and freedom.

The concept of the structure, with five figurines resembling people made out of Corten steel, is known as an urban design that focuses on introducing a special element of public art to capture the unique qualities and values of the City of Choice.

The structure has the ability to change colour to a red- brown colour which blends aesthetically with the red brick paving. It was placed in front of the Tatham Art Gallery to evoke the idea of the movement of people within the municipality. – Supplied.
