Shooting the Breeze

2017-07-05 06:00

LET me congratulate Maritzburg United management for doing the honoury thing by officially appointing Fadlu Davids as head coach this week.

Most of us might say it was long overdue, but well worth waiting for, and it was a wise decision not rushing into things with Davids.

I believe Davids, as a former United’s player, captain and acting coach for a long time, understands his team, the Team of Choice culture and knows what is needed.

Maritzburg United is our only local PSL team, part and parcel of the City of Choice, hence named the Team of Choice and it needs to remain in the top league and become the “giant killers” from the Zulu kingdom.

Many years ago in KZN we had Manning Rangers that used to
destroy almost all Gauteng’s PSL
giants.

I won’t forget those years how my old sporting friends, Joe Gengan, the late Rashid Ballim and technical expert Katz Naidoo and I used to travel every weekend to Chatsworth Stadium, just to watch the Mighty Maulers who were the pride of KZN in those days.

Again, well done to Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia and his management for displaying faith in Davids.

To Davids, he may for now be taken as the youngest head coach
in the PSL and in the country,
but I wish him all the best in his
career.

Finally, let me again take this opportunity to ask the good Samaritans to please come forward and save our forthcoming Ward 34 Community Awards by donating medals, figurines and trophies for the function.

Our aim is to honour everybody, including development coaches, officials, managers, players, residents, church leaders, to name a few, that contributed positively in uplifting our area.

People willing to help can contact me on 083 521 9553 (WhatsApp and Facebook) and Twitter @jerrybBarnes or call at 8 Redwood Crescent, Panorama Gardens.
