Shooting the Breeze

2017-09-20 06:02

FINALLY, the “big night” for the Eastwood community and neighbouring areas under Ward 34, one of the biggest wards under Msunduzi Municipality and covers Eastwood, Cinderella Park, Panorama, Malivana, Jesmondene and Madiba has arrived.

Everything has fallen into place for the Ward 34 Community Awards which takes place tomorrow,
September 15, at 5pm at Eastwood Civic Centre.

The purpose of the awards is to honour our heroes and heroines who contributed positively to our ward.

In Ward 34 there are hundreds of people who need to be honoured, but it is impossible to recognise or please everybody.

I am very grateful to our local
organising committee members,
Uncle Mike Amod (Ward 34
Councillor), Oddette Hossen, Judy Maharaj-Wood, Pastor Roy Ram
and Rush Deon Warren, among others.

The handful of donors and sponsors that came on board made things much easier for us and their contribution is important and means a lot.

To make things clear, all recipients were chosen or recommended by Ward 34 residents.

Since this is our maiden event we might experience teething problems, but we remain positive and trust the Almighty to bless us with a successful awards ceremony.

A list of the recipients will be posted this week outside our councillor’s office and the line-up is star-studded and colourful.

Household names who will be honoured include Shane Morrisson (former SA U17 captain, SA U20 and SA U23 player), Rowan Dolphin (SA U17, SA U20, SA U23 and AmaZulu player), Shaun Donnelly (Jomo Cosmos, AmaZulu and Mthatha Bush Bucks), Arthur Baartman (Kaizer Chiefs and current Maritzburg United goalkeeper coach), Darrly Gregory (African Wanderers), Wally Adams (late Ward 34 Councillor), Henry Mzalwane Petersen,
Percy Williams, Joyce Charlton, Jackals Moba (all Eastwood Taxi
Association), Ronnie Frazer, Darryl Petersen, Garth Rampaul, Dr Imtaaz Sooliman and JC Joshua, to name a few.

Thank you again Ward 34 residents, sponsors and the local organising committee, you made all of us, especially our area, proud.
