DURBAN band, Templar Funk, will be joined by several musicians to pay tribute to the music of Pink Floyd in the show, Wish You Were Here.

The three-piece rock band, consisting of Neil Ford (bass), Steven Squier (guitar, vocals) and Ross Tapson (guitar, vocals), will form the core of the line-up.

Joining them at the Allan Wilson Shellhole in Alan Paton Avenue, Pietermaritzburg on Friday, September 1, will be Dulcie Erasmus on keyboards and vocals, Grant Halliday on drums and Martin Sigamoney on saxophone.

“For this show, we will explore aspects of the Pink Floyd repertoire that haven’t been extensively covered, even by Pink Floyd themselves.

“Fans can expect to hear well-loved classics that they may never have heard performed live before,” said Tapson.

Much of the show was based around the band’s albums Wish You Were Here and Momentary Lapse of Reason. Pink Floyd, who achieved international acclaim for their progressive and psychedelic music, was founded in 1965 by students: Syd Barrett on guitar and lead vocals; Nick Mason on drums; Roger Waters on bass and vocals; and Richard Wright on keyboards and vocals.

Performing in London’s underground music scene in the late 1960s, they released two charting singles and a successful debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (1967).

Guitarist and vocalist, David Gilmour, joined in the band in December 1967 and Waters became the band’s primary lyricist and conceptual leader, devising the concepts behind their albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), The Wall (1979) and The Final Cut (1983).

Pink Floyd were inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

Tickets for Wish You Were Here can be booked at 081 755 9479, 076 536 9658 or at www.quicket.co.za
