JESSICA Bompas, a Grade 10 pupil at St Anne’s Diocesan College, is currently ranked 20th in the world for the 200m distance in the U18 category.

Jessica competed during the April school holidays and won the 200m U17 race and set the fastest time for the season in KZN out of all athletes, including seniors.

She ran 24:02, narrowly missing the SA record of 24:00.

She also came third in the 100m U17 race.

In the U18 division she was beaten by two older girls to come third in the 200m and third again in the 100m in Cape Town.

Busi Thwala (Department of Sports and Recreation) and Nobuhle Moyana (Department of Education) presented Jessica with a trophy and certificate from South African Schools Athletics in recognition of her achievements.

Jessica has been considered for the national team to represent South Africa at the African Youth Games and World Youth Games in Bata and Kenya in June.

We wish her luck with the selection. - Supplied.
