IT may look impossible and may be unlikely for the local PSL outfit Maritzburg United to pull themselves out of the dreaded relegation axe at the 11th hour, but as they say anything is possible in South African soccer.

Last weekend, Pmb United found themselves in a sticky situation and may find it impossible to remain in the elite league next season, after they went down 2-1 to SuperSport United at Harry Gwala Stadium. For the home side it was deja vu. They scored first but threw it away in the later stages of the game.

To make matters worse, second from the bottom (15th position) Jomo Cosmos were able to register the much needed 1-0 win against University of Pretoria.

Team of Choice head coach Ernst Middendorp looked frustrated, and ran out of ideas and words after the game when his side lost another home fixture.

Middendorp blamed his side’s 2-1 loss on Friday evening to the unsportsmanlike behaviour of SuperSport United players. The Team of Choice had led 1-0 at halftime, but two goals in 90 seconds after the break saw Matsatsantsa emerge 2-1 winners.

However, the Team of Choice coach felt the first goal scored by SuperSport United’s Bradley Grobler should never have happened as the visitors played on when the hosts had a man injured on the field.

United’s publicist Brian Zuma says the entire team is not going to give up until the final day. Zuma strongly feels that the Team of Choice will be still campaigning in the elite league in the new season and also confirms that they are not looking for excuses.

“To be honest, we have to blame ourselves for this. However, we have a bunch of soldiers who are prepared to fight till the blood in their veins run no more. This team will not be relegated,”said Zuma.

On Saturday the Team of Choice will travel to Orlando Stadium to face Orlando Pirates (8.15pm).

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
