Still no arrest in couple’s murder

2017-09-06 06:02

SCOTTSVILLE residents in Globe Road continue to live in fear after a couple were shot dead on August 14 there, and no one has been arrested.

Proud Kanyungwe, a pastor at Grace International Church in Pentrich Road and his wife Belinda Mukutsha were shot dead in their home in Globe Road by two unknown people.

The victims lived with six relatives, including their two children, who have since returned to their country of birth, Zimbabwe.

When Maritzburg Fever went to the house on Monday, it was unoccupied and busy being cleaned and prepared for renovations.

Neighbours, who requested anonymity, claim they are worried because no arrests have been made. Another nearby resident said they are still in shock.

“This was known as one of the safest places in Scottsville until that incident. We fear for our lives now because we don’t know who is next. The manner in which the incident happened is suspicious. It was like an inside job - something that was planned and they knew exactly who to target. It did not look like a house break-in.

“Every time I hear the dogs bark at night I pray because I don’t know whether the criminals have returned. The only time we will feel safe is when they [criminals] are behind bars.”

Another resident said they are scared to drive at night in the area because they are unaware of where criminals are hiding.

“We live in fear in our homes, which is where we should feel safe. Returning home at night - when you open the gate - you have to look over your shoulder every second just to check no one is following you.

“The law needs to make an example of these criminals once they are caught because they can’t go around killing people in their home,” he said.

PMB SAPS Spokesperson Mthokizisi Ngobese confirmed that no one has been arrested, and that the murder is still under investigation.
