Teddy Tennis ‘hits’ Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands

2017-09-06 06:01

THE Chris Folker Tennis Club will visit pre-schools and aftercare centres throughout Pietermaritzburg to introduce Teddy Tennis in September.

The club acquired the Teddy Tennis franchise for the Midlands and Pietermaritzburg.

Teddy Tennis is a United Kingdom franchise that is active in 12 countries and was recently launched on the South African market in Cape Town.

Folker said they are excited about the launch because it is a first for Pietermaritzburg.

“This is something big for us and the community of Pietermaritzburg and the Midlands.

“We want to teach children as young as possible.

“We want to expose them to sport [and] get them to know everything while they are young. Sport is a great way for children to learn to play fairly, build communication skills and work as a team.

“Teddy Tennis teaches these valuable life lessons as much as it teaches how to catch a ball or swing a tennis racquet,” he said.

Folker said lessons combine teddy bear stories, pictures and songs to get children interested and encourages them to make the correct “tennis action” in time to a beat.

“Some of the schools we will be visiting are Laddsworth Primary, Epworth, St Charles College and pre-schools in Howick and Hilton.

“We would like to go to as many schools as we can.

“If there are other schools that would like us to visit them and introduce this new programme, they must contact us. We will be more than happy to go to them.”

For more information, Folker can be contacted on 033 343 3540 or email admin@cftennis.co.za

Teddy Tennis is a new instructional
programme that inspires young children to play tennis and develop a love
of the sport and creatively connects to children through music, pictures, stories and teddy bear characters.
