EDENDALE resident Sthembiso Mthembu is shaken after witnessing an accident which left two people dead, and four sustaining minor to moderate injuries on Saturday evening around 6.30pm.

The accident happened near the Nduduzo Funeral Home and involved four cars.

ER24 released a report stating that ER24 paramedics, EMRS, Fire and Rescue and other services attended to the accident.

“Two men, believed to be in their late twenties to early thirties, were found trapped in one of the vehicles. Upon assessment it was found they had sustained multiple injuries. There was nothing that could be done for them and they were declared dead.

“Three people from the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and the taxi driver sustained moderate injuries. The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations” reads the report. Mthembu had been travelling from town with his 16-year-old son when they witnessed the accident.

“I saw the green Astra coming from Edendale and it tried to overtake a car and the driver lost control and smashed into oncoming traffic on the opposite road.

“The green car first hit a minibus taxi and then the black Golf, which then hit my car,” said Mthembu at the accident scene.

Mthembu and his son escaped without injury.

“I am still shocked by what I saw, especially because I was with my son,” said Mthembu.

People in the Astra died at the scene.

One community member, who also witnessed the accident, said he suspected the driver of the car, which smashed into the oncoming traffic, could have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

The devastated family members of the deceased visited the scene.
