OFTEN young people in the spotlight are the ones at
the helm of entertainment and showbiz, but on Friday, July 14, a Pietermaritzburg NGO, operating in uMgungundlovu called YFC
Mayikhethele, which runs the KwaDambuza Youth Development Centre, hosted awards to celebrate the work done by young people in the NGO sector.

The NPO is funded by the KZN Department of Social Development and focuses on vulnerable youth in the uMgungundlovu District.

The centre offers a range of skills that assist youth to better shape their lives.

One of the main focus areas is to promote youth clubs and NPOs formation at ward level.

The KwaDambuza Youth Development Centre honoured youth clubs and NPOs for the work they do in all seven local municipalities under uMgungundlovu District.

This work of these youth clubs and NPOs with limited resources and in many instances with no resources at all, makes the
Department of Social Development, through the centre, able to
function and communicate with
the community especially the
youth.

In recognition of the dedicated youth who contribute to the nation building of our country, Kwa-
Dambuza Youth Development
Centre hosted an award ceremony for the first time in Pietermaritzburg.

Recognition was given to different categories for youth clubs or NPOs that went the extra mile in reaching out to the youth.

“These awards were meant to promote good citizenship among the youth” said Tineyi Chickunduru, the director at the centre and the awards founder.

The awards were held at The
Imperial Hotel in Pietermaritzburg and were attended by the
Msunduzi Mayor Themba Njilo,
the uMgungundlovu District Mayor, Thobekile Maphumulo and the
Department of Arts and Culture officials.
