MARITZBURG United is raring to go and is more than ready for the new season.

To display its readiness, the Team of Choice officially paraded their signings at Harry Gwala Stadium recently.

The new kids on the block are well travelled and experienced and include KwaMashu-born Siyanda Xulu who played for Kaizer Chiefs last season, however, his stay at the Naturena headquarters came to an end.

Xulu has also played for the Russian side FC Rostov. Before that he played for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Other capable names taken by the Team of Choice are goalkeeper, Richard Ofori from Ghana, defenders Rushine de Reuck and Motsie Matima, midfielders Mxolisi Kunene, Liam Youlley and Jethren Barr.

A few weeks ago, Ofori was tipped to conclude a deal with the Chloorkop-based club following the departure of Wayne Sandilands to Orlando Pirates.

United chairman Farouk Kadodia says his target this season is the top five.

Xulu believes joining United is likely to bring new positives to his career, an opposite from his frustration at Chiefs.

He says it won’t be just smooth sailing at United, but said he is prepared to work hard in order to be in the starting line-up.

Head coach Fadlu Davids, who had a good season and proved many, who doubted his ability as acting coach wrong, feels the chairman’s mandate needs to be respected and accomplished.

Davids is also excited about his new players and expects the best from them.

“We are very glad and welcome our new players to the family. Our main aim is to get going from the outset and set our eyes on our new season’s target.

“You heard that our chairman wants the team to be in the top five at the end of the season.

“His dream must be respected and be fulfilled.

“We are prepared to work hard all the way and pull together as a team,” the coach said.
