We need peace committees to fight crime

2017-03-08 06:02

THE armed robbery that happened recently at Nottingham Road in which Roger and Christine Solik were murdered is a very painful situation in our area. This is also equal to the body of a woman found in Howick’s Bell Street and there was a burglary at KwaMevana.

I would like to encourage residents to strongly build up peace committees to avoid all these criminal elements operating in our areas. Even in areas like Hilton where crime is so high you need to roll up your sleeves with all safety and security forces to patrol areas.

Don’t stop at stop signs if it’s not safe to do so. I appeal to law enforcers to bring back the stop and search model at night to hunt down some of these culprits.

To prevent further crime in areas like Mpophomeni Township, Sphumelele, Shiyabazali, kaMevana, Lidgetton, Lions River, Tumbleweed, Howick West and kwaHhaza location, stop and search [operations] also should be more visible by our police force.

When jogging on the R617 during the day you will always see some suspicious gangs walking carrying luggage.

If we join hands together with our CPF members, police, peace-loving organisations, farmers’ unions, the business sector, our community leaders and traditional authorities, we can fight crime tooth and nail.
