Fun in the sun

Fun in the Sun will take place on Saturday, 1 October at Hazelmere Dam. Gates open at 6am. Tickets cost R250 per person (pre-sold), R300 from 24 September and R600 for VIP available through Computicket. Apart from the music, indulge in food, clothing stalls and adrenaline pumping water sports to ensure a full day of fun and unforgettable memories. Camping and caravaning is available. The outdoor music festival will once again be epic, with over 100 local acts taking to the stage in unforgettable performances including International DJ, Mike Williams, who will be keeping the crowds partying all night long. Colour Run PMB

The Colour Run Pietermaritzburg is taking place at Epworth School on 2 October from 10am to 1.30pm. Tickets cost R250 per person or R225 per team of four to 10, children under 10 run free. Your Ticket includes styling 80’s headband, Colour Run official runners t-shirt, R200 coupon for Superbalist.com, a bag of colour powder, two temporary tattoos, race number and entry to The Finish Festival.

Save-Orion Race

Save-Orion Athletic Club’s annual race takes place on Sunday, 6 November. The race will start and finish at Save Hyper, Victoria Street starting at 5.30am. This years race will have an added edge, apart from the R50 000 prize money across the field, it also incorporates the KZNA Half Marathon Championships and will attract the KZN’s top athletes as well. Athletes are urged to enter early as the first 2 500 entrants will receive t-shirts and goodie bags. Entry Fee for the 21km event is R120 and the 10km is R90. Temporary licences for non-licenced athletes at R25 and R10 respectively will be also be available. Online entries are now open. Entry forms can be downloaded and will also be available at Save Hyper, Save Truro Plaza, as well as at Poobie Naidoo Sports. Bethel Assembly AGM

The Annual general meeting of Bethel Assembly will take place 2 October from 11:30am to 4:30pm at 147 Dookran Road, Northdale. Voting of nominees will take place 25 September from 11am to 2:30pm at 147 Dookran Road.

Grief and bereavement workshop

This workshop gives participants the opportunity to explore the above questions and more. It looks at how to react to loss and the normal grief process. It also looks at examples of what complicates grief and the signs to look out for. The workshop takes place from 13 to 14 October 2016, 8am to 3pm at Msunduzi Hospice Conference Centre. The cost is R570 per person. RSVP by Friday, 7 October. Only tea will be provided, bring your own lunch. Anyone wanting to understand grief and bereavement better is invited to attend this workshop. We do however recommend a waiting period of one year after a significant loss before attending.

Make your mark

The YMCA Pietermaritzburg’s first annual #MakeYourMark Festival is taking place on 24 September with a 5KM Fun Walk with registration opening from 8am to 9am. The Fun Walk begins at 9am until 10.30am and is open to everyone from families to sport fanatics. Other activities available includes a flee market, food stalls, and different inflatable and information tables. The #MYM Concert will feature Austin Lurring, Acoustiq Assassins, Chico Muya and Lana Crowster. Supporting acts include Matt Gardiner, Resonance, MX, Mali Zulu, Blaque Harmony and Drum Kit(Beatboxer). Cost of entry is R50 for Adults and R30 for students. Concert starts at 11am and ends at 7pm.

Breast Cancer Talk and Breakfast

Msunduzi Hospice will be hosting a breast cancer awareness talk and breakfast on 8 October at 9am to 11am at 200 Zwartkop Road. There will be a specialist panel of speakers ready to answer any questions. Speakers include, Faith Chetty a breast cancer survivor, Dr Shane Cullis an oncologist, Dr S Govender a gynecologist, Jackpersad and Partners and Heidi Collyer from Msunduzi Hospice.
