A WOMAN was killed and five injured when a Polo and a bakkie
collided on Old Wartburg Road in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday afternoon.

ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said: “Upon ER24’s arrival at 2.55pm, another medical service was already on scene.

“A woman in the passenger seat of the Polo, believed to be in her 20s, was declared dead on the scene by another medical service.”

She said ER24 assessed a three-year-old boy as well as a four-year-old boy on the scene and found
that the two had sustained moderate injuries, however, the two boys were taken to Northdale Hospital.

Van Huyssteen added that ER24 also transported the driver of the bakkie to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg.

“The man [driver of the bakkie] sustained moderate injuries.

“The other two patients were transported by other medical services on the scene to nearby hospitals.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known to our paramedics, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations,” she said.
